In 1880, the Waitemata Co-Op Dairy Company commenced production of butter in a small wooden building near to this site. A fire burnt it down in the early 1900s so a replacement was built on the same site, but it was to be too small. Because of increasing demand, the company built the large concrete factory that you see today. The official opening of the new building was on 27 November 1924.
The factory flourished until 1951, when along with several similar factories, changes in the dairy industry brought about its closure. Advances in refrigeration technology allowed for improved capability to transport milk to larger more centralized processing centres. When the factory had to close, World War II aircraft parts were stored inside.
In 1974, the Jack family who could see its potential, bought the building. Having the vision they were able to turn it into a wedding venue for hosting romantic weddings and other functions. Restoration and development happened over the course of 16 years. A labour of love was the gardens which are the magnificently mature grounds you see today.
In 1991, the building reopened as the Old Dairy Factory Bar and Restaurant. Because of another fire only a year later the building was again requiring refurbishment. Settlers Lodge became the new name to commemorate the area’s early settlers. Later in 2012, the name Settlers Country Manor was born, and the it became an enchanting wedding and function venue.
